Business Book covered some of our experiences with being a company mentioned on Wikipedia, and with that listing being challenged.

I would have liked to take a minute to spotlight some of the lessons we assimilated and supply some straightforward recommendation for those of you who would like your setups noted on Wikipedia. First, never post your organization on Wikipedia without understanding "the rules" for all such articles.

Your page will be quickly removed, and you'll have made a history for yourself of having been removed. When you move to repost your article, you might be judged antagonistically as "spamming," although that would possibly not be your intention. The guidelines of Wikipedia rule a large range of ideas, from worthiness for the existence of the article all of the way to covering the character of the content of the article itself. It is critically vital before you start on a Wikipedia journey that you take the time to realize as many of these guiding principles as possible. After you understand the written rules of Wikipedia, you also should understand the human side. Wikipedia has many thousands, if not millions, of volunteers who make contributions to and police the content on the site. These folks are delinquent, but they receive accolades and promotions, and in reality develop an internet identity thru their Wikipedia efforts. The workhorses of the system are the "editors" ; some editors can rise to the level of "administrator." there are various rights imparted between and inside each of these ranks.

These editors and directors have amazing power to put your article into one of the many processes and question any one of a good range of rules or policies as they pertain to your article, depending on their preference. Without investing a major period of time, one must presume that these people know a load more than you do about the bureaucracy of Wikipedia, and as such they have you off balance.

Based primarily on that, our 2nd piece of recommendation for any business looking to be listed in Wikipedia is just to notice that the administration of Wikipedia is a human effort, and so involves all of the facets of working with people that you find anyplace else. Working with Wikipedia was one of the most stressed experiences I have had in a while. If you want to be listed there, make no mistake, you'll need to grasp the guidelines and you'll need to comprehend the politics to achieve success.
