Privacy setting upgraded by Facebook

Facebook, the planet's biggest online networking website, latterly commented to inspire members to share additional information on the web; it has upgraded its privacy settings, making many classes of info of its users obvious by default to everybody. Why this presumes significance is actually because Facebook permits its users to choose their level of privacy, by letting them block access to either mates, buddies of buddies or everyone.

It’s a feature which has helped the site gain many users and is in accordance with its mantra of "control what you need to share." But with the recent change - unless users actively manage their privacy settings themselves - their info like Family and Relationship, Education and Work, and their posts will be made plain to everybody, irrespective of what their prior privacy settings were.

This has made many of the sites 350 million users see red. "The way these changes have been implemented has made a sense that I am being compelled to share more than I want," claims Manish Sinha, an IT pro.

Online observers believe the revised settings are a tactical move by Facebook to get search engines to index more info from the internet site, to counter growing competition from microblogging sites like Twitter.
