Digg to release new API

Digg.com, the web fire hose of fascinating stories on the internet, is preparing to up the pressure. On Wed., the San Francisco-based content-sharing site is anticipated to release a new version of its application programming interface, or API. The changes are targeted at simplifying the way application developers have interaction with the Digg platform, and will supply a fresh way for application programmers to permit Digg users and remotely let them do something on stories.

Google reader with fevicon feature

Google added a little but welcomed feature to its Reader service: favicons. These are the small square icons supplied by sites that show up both in your address bar and open tabs (in most browsers at least). Google Reader users can now choose to see them in their feed source list, where formerly, feeds just showed up as little blue RSS signal brands.

Wetpaint to reduce its staff

Wetpaint today let go 9 staffers including co-founders Kevin Flaherty and Alex Berg - as the 4-year-old Seattle operator of wikis refocuses efforts on its own online publishing ventures. It now employs thirty folks. The heavily-funded company isn't announcing too much about the net publishing effort, which includes new business models for the battered media industry.

Yelp to be seen on android app

Frequent Yelp users will be excited to see a Yelp for Android app take its place in the Android Market on Monday. Be forewarned the app contains the minimum services from Yelp.com in this iteration. There's the common search for cafes and companies nearby, which Yelp sniffs out using GPS or cell tower triangulation. Results records include ratings, reviews, and footage you can view from the telephone.
